Yin Yoga- Yoga for Everyone

You might be wondering why a gym that focuses in high intensity interval training workouts is so excited to offer a Yin Yoga class. You might think that Yin yoga isn't for athletes and that it's meant for people who want to exercise in a relaxing environment. You might not be totally wrong, but make no mistake, Yin Yoga is extremely beneficial to everyone, especially those who are consistently physically active.


If you've taken a class at Root you have heard us stress the importance of stretching to help your body's recovery after a workout. Yin Yoga is a great practice to add into your recovery program. It helps to relieve tightness and increases flexibility. Yin Yoga, as opposed to other practices is great for yoga beginners. It focuses on deep stretching, but doesn't require you to support your bodyweight in poses. This is extremely helpful when your body is already tense and sore from a workout.


Additionally, one of the biggest benefits from continued Yin Yoga practice is an increase in flexibility. That might not be something that seems terribly important when working out, but increased flexibility means increased range of motion, meaning you can push yourself that much further in your high intensity workouts.


On the other side of the coin, Yin Yoga is great for people who are just beginning their fitness journey and want to practice discipline. The benefits of Yin Yoga for someone who does not have a consistent workout routine are the same as if you are active, but implementing a steady routine of some sort is a great way to get back into the swing of working out, and sometimes you need to do that slowly.


As we have expanded the curriculum at Root, we try to look at areas that we feel a void exists. While we focus heavily on stretching before and after our classes, we feel that Yin Yoga is a great way to further implement the importance of body recover after a high intensity workout. We are so excited to have our very first Yin Yoga class at Root Performance Fitness this Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 pm.
