Does Exercise Have an Age Limit?
Everyone knows that it is suggested to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily. We’ve spoken extensively about how to slowly work yourself back into exercise after injury, a long winter or even if you’re just beginning your workout journey. One area that we haven’t spent a ton of time on are the benefits of regular exercise as you age.
You might think that a certain point it simply doesn’t matter if you exercise or how you eat,but properly taking care of your body, no matter the stage of life is beneficial long term.
Studies have shown that adults who exercise regularly throughout adulthood experienced lower cholesterol, maintained muscle mass and healthier immune systems in their older age. Regular exercise can help with your coordination and reflexes as well, common difficulties demonstrated by many seniors.
Not only do the long term effects of regular exercise help your physical health, they also help your mental health. Those who consistently exercise throughout their adulthood demonstrate lessened effects of dementia in older age. It can help keep your memory sharp. We know we don’t need to quote Legally Blonde, but exercise also gives you endorphins, which make you happy. All in all what we’re saying is, exercise is good for mind, body and mood no matter the stage of life you’re in.
You might think that it’s too late if you are not someone who exercised regularly throughout adulthood. That is not the case. Because our regular Surge and Amplified Tabata classes move so quickly, and revolve around the HIIT structure, we offer at Silver Fundamentals class. Our Silver Fundamentals class is a small class environment that focuses around strength, balance and core training for seniors. Everyone is welcome, no matter how in or out of shape you think you are. If you are not interested in a group class environment, we offer personal training packages for all ages. We currently work with many clients who haven’t allowed age to slow them down in any way, and we can’t wait to work with you too!
