Are You A Runner? Here’s Why RPF is for you!

Did you know that HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training was rated one of the top fitness trends for 2019 according to a survey conducted by the American College of Sports Medicine? Did you ALSO know that Root Performance Fitness specializes in HIIT classes? That’s right! Even our STRONG by Zumba classes utilize interval training to keep your muscles working and avoid concentrated fatigue.

We won’t lie to you, HIIT classes are intense. You will sweat. You might complain. There may be tears (just kidding!). But what we can guarantee is fitness fast. Don’t get us wrong, HIIT is not the get rich quick scheme of the fitness world. What we do know, however, is that the effects of an HIIT makes you fitter, faster. You might say, but RPF, I’m a runner, I only need to run. THAT is where you are wrong!

HIIT is a great base for building your running capacity. Starting your running routine with interval training can increase mitochondrial function, which is when your body changes fuel to energy quickly. HIIT can improve your bodily exercise functions so much so that doing four 30-second-max effort sprints followed by four and a half minutes of recovery can give you the same fitness benefits as a 30-minute, moderately paced run. HIIT also improves cardiovascular health all around!

Most runners say that running is the only exercise that they need, but adding HIIT to your regular exercise routine clearly has benefits. Cross-training allows your body to rest so that your muscles don’t experience muscle fatigue, or pulling. If you are looking to get fit quickly for a race, beginning with HIIT workouts is the way to ensure a strong and fast baserunning ability.

At RPF we put our money where our mouth is. We have spoken about the importance of HIIT, but we cross-train in the warm months with our run club! Every Friday beginning in the spring we invite everyone in our community, not just our Root Fit Fam, to join us in a group run. The RPF Run Club accepts people of all skill levels, and we welcome newcomers to experience the community that we aspire to build within our gym!
